Today our world has been merged. In broader perspective its one nation and one country with boundaries and set rules of provinces. Globalization is gripping day by day. It’s not like something is far or not accessible. One of the Reason Behind Timing Belts tooth Variations is Globalization.
Globalization is 1st Reason Behind Timing Belts Tooth Variations
Globalization is defined as an ongoing process by which regional economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through a globe-spanning network of communication and exchange. Globalization is usually recognized as being driven by a combination of economic, technological, socio cultural, political, and biological factors. To me, This is the core Reason Behind Timing Belts tooth Variations.
Still Confused? I explain it, but first go Back in 2000 era for Timing Belts
If you go 15-20 years back, There were some countable names of Timing Belts manufacturers. Today, if you google “manufacturer of timing belts”. You shall get about 17,600,000 results. Of course this is not true but number of manufacturers are also not in hundred. You will find more than thousand in only China. Most of them are listed online. Now start counting Manufacturers of Timing Belts in China, India, USA, UK, Germany, Italy and many other manufacturing countries. Any idea? How much you will find? First of all, you are not going to research because you know brands like Gates, Unita, Bando, Opti, Perkin, Goodyear and some Chinese like Bonds and you are satisfied with them. Soon I’ll share one more secret 😉
Once a belt new belt is installed on new machine. This machine goes to purchasing parties (factory / agents) in different parts of world. On the time of belt replacement, they need to buy new one to keep machine running. They buy from machinery sellers at any cost if this is not available in local market. Industries also request local importers to keep new belt in stock. The same case happens in every country and there are manufacturers in some country too. This is the chance for local manufacturers to make new die and start making new type of belt. This is how Globalization effects.
Creating Monopoly is 2nd Reason Behind Timing Belts tooth Variations
Whenever a manufacturer of machinery designs pulley and shafts, they have some specific diagrams and requirement of belt on that specific toothed pulley. They usually collaborate with manufacturers requesting their requirements from one belt in huge quantity. Leading Belting Manufacturers make little variations with tooth to rule the market for some time. This is their PEAK TIME.
Please Note: They don’t change belt design without proper & long-term research. It is not like simply changing belt teeth from 10 mm width to 12 or 08. Changing belt pitch with just idea. They make proper plans, research, analyse the change, test the change, observe and also test improvements in belt grip & life after change. Once everything goes well, then they decided to have alternation.
As explained above in Globalization perspective. Local or small manufacturers copy new belts to stay in market. They follow new technologies and techniques which are actually made by ruling companies. They (Big Companies) have already earned Return on Investment before this modified and manufactured by Local & Small companies belt comes in global market.
Why they do it?
I think you already knew it that manufacturers need to do it to stay in market. A well reputed branded belt is Pakistani rupees 1000 but same sized Chinese belt is half and sometimes lower than half price. Production costs are too high in America & Europe but lesser in Asian Countries. 2-5% will buy brands but rest will go for less priced option.
Technology is another reason
Technology is rapidly increasing. Our demands are increasing because our population is increasing. Researches are working 24 hours to make work flow faster, sharper, accurate & longer. You need to improve yourself when your requirement changes. People in 10th century didn’t need cars to move but now you need to car, actually fastest and luxurious car. This is another factor.
This is my own personal perception and experience based sharing. It is not associated with any manufacturer.
